Any given Sunday Americans watch “their team.” And are convinced they are the best. Haven’t won in decades? No worries. We still love our team! And usually that team loyalty is based on our geography–where we grew up or where we live now. That loyalty can be misguided, but that’s okay. (We feel your pain, Cleveland Browns fans.) So, when we tell you that Colorado is the absolute best place to build a custom home, you might think that’s blind loyalty. After all, I (Bill) was born here and attended Air Academy High School. I returned here after going to college in southern California and Ashley and I raised our kids here. We continue to live and work here and love it.
So is it just Colorado loyalty or is there a list of reasons you (and everyone else) should choose the Front Range as the place to build your dream home?
We will give you seven reasons why people choose to build their dream homes in Colorado:
1. Colorado Views
We bet you have heard of Colorado. And it probably wasn’t for our thriving punk rock scene or our biggest ball of twine. You have heard about our mountains. And, hopefully, you’ve seen them.
They are amazing.
Famous people write songs about them. John Denver, Joe Walsh, and Jimmy Buffet, to name a few. One of America’s most beloved songs was birthed in Colorado Springs by Katherine Lee Bates. She was inspired to pen “America The Beautiful” after a carriage ride to the top of Pikes Peak where she saw the “sea-like expanse of fertile country…under those ample skies”. And now everyone sings about it.
Living along the Front Range is like enjoying ocean views daily. The upgrade here is you can see the mountains on your Starbucks run or your way to school or work. You can’t see the ocean from just any street in Cali. But our sky-high beauty can be seen from miles around. And it never, ever fails to disappoint. I don’t let a day pass without being grateful for these priceless views.
You can mark the seasons along our beautiful Front Range. The first pop of yellow from the autumn aspens. A dusting or dumping of snow in the winter. The vibrant green against the above-tree-line-brown in the summer.
Whether meadows, high plains, mountains, or pines, our Front Range views are amazing!
2. The Dry Climate
Many people love living in Colorado because of the dry climate. In fact, lots of folks from other states marvel at the lack of humidity, especially in the summer.
No frizzy hair or soggy towels in our neck of the woods. Some experts say, because of the dry air, we have fewer allergens and less incidence of mold too.
3. Proximity to Healthy Recreation
“Go outside and play,” was on repeat at our house growing up. And, like a lot of things, my folks got that right.
Time outside is refreshing, rejuvenating, and fun! Coloradans love our time outdoors and we make sure to get lots of it all year long!
From skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, and hiking in the winter. To kayaking, mountain biking, fishing, camping, dog-walking, rafting, and hiking in the summer. Colorado offers a near-endless list of healthy recreation options no matter the time of year.
There are 4 National Parks, 2,600 ski runs, and 14,500,000 acres of National Forest in Colorado. You will love the variety of healthy activities you can do as a family, with the pooch, solo, or with a group of friends.
4. Quality of Life
Those healthy, family-friendly outdoor activities are just part of the quality of life when you live in Colorado.

Our quality of life is also heightened by our clean air and stunning blue skies. In fact, our skies are so amazing that Behr Paint 570D-4 is named Colorado Springs blue.
You can paint your walls…or you can live beneath the expanse of azure every day. We know our choice.
5. Job Growth
Colorado Springs has seen strong job growth, especially in the defense, aerospace, and technology sectors.

Colorado Springs’ job growth ranked above national average with wage growth out-pacing most large cities. Recently, almost a dozen semiconductor and defense companies announced expansion plans for the Springs projected to create over 3,000 jobs.
In addition to professional and business services jobs, Colorado Springs is home to:

This area will continue to thrive as employers enjoy a stable, hard-working, highly-educated labor pool in a thriving market.
6. Solid Housing Investment
Colorado provides a rock-solid place to invest your money in a custom home. Why? See 1-5 above.
A strong job market, award-winning schools, a place where people want to live because of our climate and natural beauty, along with the national recognition of the area’s greatness support your custom home investment like a firm foundation.

7. Quality Colorado Builders
Now we can’t speak for every Colorado builder, but there are some really good builders in this area. We care about the quality of our product and taking care of the customer.
When you build in Colorado there are certain aspects of building that are different from other places. Terrain, insulation and energy efficiency, snow loads, etc. Experience matters and anticipating issues before they arise can move the home project along more quickly and save expenses.
You will spend 9-12 months with your custom home builder. Make sure it is someone you can trust, that is kind and careful, and respects what a big deal building your own home is. Mike and I have over 60 combined years of custom home building. This opportunity comes around only once in a lifetime for most folks. Make sure your custom home builder is worthy of your time, hard-earned money, and trust.
As avid Coloradans, we could continue on with a giant list of reasons Colorado is the best place to build a custom home, but you’ve got things to do.
Do your research, ask lots of questions, pack a ball cap and your stocking cap and get out here! Colorado is the place to be!
